What Your Copier Isn’t Telling You
Published: May 2026 | Category: Guides
You have a winning trade running. The setup is still valid, momentum is building, so you add to the position, a second entry in the same direction, building on a winner. Standard practice for any trader with a momentum or trend-following approach.
On your signal account, you are now holding double the size, on your follower accounts? Still sitting at the original entry, your copier did nothing.
This is not a glitch. It is not a settings issue. It is how most trade copiers are built and if adding to winners is part of your strategy, it is costing you P&L across every follower account, on every trade, silently.
Why Most Copiers Leave Your Followers Behind
Most trade copiers work by watching your signal account’s open position and trying to keep follower accounts matched to it. When a position opens, followers open. When it closes, followers close.
The problem with this approach is timing. When you add to a position, the copier has to notice the size has changed, work out what the difference is, and then fire orders on the followers to catch up. In fast-moving markets, that process can fall behind. Many copiers have safety logic built in that says, “this account already has an open position do not open another one,” which blocks the add-to-position order entirely.
The result is always the same: your signal account has the full scaled position, your followers have only the original entry, and the rest of the trade runs at reduced size on every account that matters.
How Q-My-Trade Handles It
Q-My-Trade treats every entry you make as its own event, whether it is an initial entry or an add to an existing position. When you scale in on your signal account, Q-My-Trade copies that add to every eligible follower account straight away. Not after a delay. Not on the next price update. Straight away.
If you enter with 10 contracts and then add 8 more twenty minutes later, every follower account receives the initial 10-contract entry and then the 8-contract add, in the correct order. When the position closes, all accounts close together, at the full combined size.
You can verify this in the NT8 output tab. Every entry on the signal account appears as its own copy event in the log:
[Q-My-Trade] Master 1: signal fill: Buy 10x MNQ
[Q-My-Trade] Master 1: copy Buy on Account1 | 10x MNQ
[Q-My-Trade] Master 1: signal fill: Buy 8x MNQ
[Q-My-Trade] Master 1: copy Buy on Account1 | 8x MNQ
Two entries on the signal account. Two copy events. Every follower in sync.
Running Scale-In Strategies Across Prop Firm Accounts
If you trade scale-ins across funded or evaluation prop firm accounts, there are a few things worth setting up correctly in Q-My-Trade before you run.
Check the Contract Limits First
Every prop firm sets a maximum number of contracts per account. Apex 4.0 allows 4 contracts on a $25K account, 10 on a $50K, and 14 on a $100K. If your signal account scales into a position that is larger than a follower account’s limit, the broker will reject the scale-in order on that account.
Q-My-Trade will still try to send the order and when the broker rejects it, RECONCILE will flag the mismatch so you can see it. The cleaner approach is to set a fixed position size on follower accounts that keeps the maximum scaled position within each account’s contract limit. This way the full scale-in copies cleanly every time.
The Consistency Rule and Large Days
Apex 4.0 Performance Accounts have a consistency rule: no single day can account for more than 50% of your total profits at payout time. Other prop firms use similar ratio-based rules, so check yours.
A scale-in strategy that catches a strong trend day will naturally produce larger-than-average daily P&L. That is the point: you are pressing a winner. But a single outsized day can skew the consistency ratio on a funded account and block a payout until future trading days dilute it back down. Our free consistency rule calculator shows how much more profit you need, and the most you can make on your next day, before you request a payout.
The practical solution is to set a MAX WIN cap on each funded account in Q-My-Trade. Once the account reaches a defined daily profit target, Q-My-Trade stops entering new trades on that account for the rest of the session. A sensible MAX WIN target keeps any single day from dominating the payout calculation.
⚠ Important: Win and Loss Caps Are Not Kill Switches
Before you set any win or loss caps, understand exactly what they do and what they do not do.
A Q-My-Trade cap stops new entries. Once the daily P&L threshold is crossed, Q-My-Trade marks the account as capped and will not open any new trades on it for the rest of the session.
A Q-My-Trade cap does not close an open position. If you are already in a trade, including a fully scaled-up position, when the cap triggers, that position keeps running. It will not be closed automatically. Q-My-Trade has no kill switch.
This matters more with scale-in strategies than with single-entry strategies, because a fully scaled position carries more risk per point of adverse movement. If your signal takes a sharp reversal after you have added to the position, the cap will not protect the follower accounts from the full loss on that larger position. Your signal strategy’s own stop loss is the protection for the open trade. The Q-My-Trade cap is for session management only.
Set your caps as a starting point for session discipline. Set your stop losses as the actual risk control. For full details on how caps work, see our FAQs at qmytrade.co.uk/faqs
COPY ALL for Evaluations, ROTATE for Funded Accounts
For evaluation accounts, COPY ALL mode is the right choice. Scale-in strategies that produce strong trend days are exactly what you want in an evaluation, you are trying to hit the profit target and pass. Run as many evaluations as you like in parallel. Every add-to-position copies to all of them simultaneously.
For funded Performance Accounts, ROTATE mode with a MAX WIN cap per account gives you the consistency rule protection you need. One account trades per signal, capped at a sensible daily target. The cycle advances to the next account. No single account accumulates an outsized day.
If you are running evaluations and funded accounts at the same time, run them as two masters, each with its own signal account: a COPY ALL group for the evaluations and a ROTATE group for the funded accounts. Both take every signal, from one panel, each handled the right way.
